Default Close ups of my 29G community tank

These are some shots from my 29 gal potted tank. Nothing fancy.. 2 potted Crypts, 1 potted Amazon sword, a little moss for fry and shrimp. Some driftwood . $10 LED light, and preset 77F heater and 2 air driven hydrosponges. Tank contains a school of Phoenix Rasboro, Endler Guppys, Bristlenose plecos and Cherry shrimp. Tanks been running since November.

The idea when I set this up was to have a shrimp safe Tank. I initially stocked it with 20 of my brightest red Cherry Shrimp and waited for Babies to start showing up, I have no problem with Cherry Shrimp here.. If you so much as look at the Tank they breed. But none were breeding . I was worried that someone was eating the baby shrimp. So I looked closer and realized I goofed big time. In my attempt to have a tank full of bright red Cherry shrimp in my Living room I selected only females! Problem solved, threw in some Males and within in weeks Babies everywhere. The Guppys too are prolific as Guppies are.. Started a second overflow tank already.

    Nice low maintenance tank!

Looking good, Al! Surprised there wasn't at least one berried female in the 20, but maybe the stress of the move made them shuck their eggs.
I'm jealous of people who have good luck with plants. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but it just doesn't work for me. I have some crypts that are 2+ years old that are smaller then when I planted them. They never grow. Doesn't matter if I use root tabs or not. I can grow a mean pile of hornwort, though. So I'll stick to that.

Thanks Pat, They are a great little fish . They have zero interest in even the smallest guppy fry.

Its not that hard, nor expensive to take good tank shots..

Jacob, I 'm not doing anything special here or high tech.. I haven't used ferts in the tank or plants pots, but I will soon add some iron tabs and calcium to the pots. Alls these are is basically a layer of gravel, some milled peatmoss mixed with sand 50-50% and layer of laterite (iron source) topped lightly with some river stone to keep it in place. Its basically a media I use for alot of terrestrial plants.. sand and peat are a great combo. The light on the 29 gal is literally a $10 light,,

Pat I have remote flash sitting on the tank ..but pointed to the ceiling and bouncing light into the tank. Its a really old film era flash. I picked up a set of 4 remotes and controller a few years ago on ebay for some ridiculously cheap price $15? They are made by "newer" and actually work pretty darn good. Nice thing is I can use 4 flashes at one time... most I ever use is 2. On fish tanks usually just 1.

Nice setup! Plants look great and really like that phoenix. Guessing it’s a nano fish? Never seen it before. How many do you have in there? Does it eat shrimplets? Cherry shrimp looks great! The red legs stick out.

I have used one flash with a diffuser on top of the tank Al. I do not have a flash for the Z9 however. May need to consider one.

Thanks Tom. Yes they are Nano fish . They are shrimplet safe.Theres a school of twenty. I was hoping they would breed but none yet. Might be too much going on..I started with a trio of fire red endler in that tank and now have two tanks of them. Cherry Shrimp are really doing well in there. They say Hi to their cousins.

So far the tank is pretty balanced ..I need to pull out a few plecos.. I put 10 babies in there to grow out.. need to drop that number down to 4 for now.
