Dissolving Metronidazole

I noticed that Metro does not dissolve easily at room temperature water. Heating it up in the microwave in a cup of water for 1 minute (starts boiling) dissolves it completely. Are there any adverse effects to heating metro this way?

Jan I wouldnt use heat. Heating medications speeds up decomposition and can sometimes total de-activates them.

Metronidazole is soluable in water but takes some time to dissolve. You can add it as powder to the tank and it will dissolve with out the need to heat or use solvent.

I heard of dissolving it in acetone. The idea of it kind of creeped me out, but I tried it once a long time ago without any bad result.

Liz , Acetone is used by some to dissolve flubendazole and Praziquantel as they arent very water soluable. I have had some weird bacterial blooms when I have used acetone in the past for those meds.. didnt hurt the discus though.

I dissolve it in a cup of tank water, it doesn't completely dissolve it but when you pour it into your tank you will have a white bottom from it but that usually disappears in an hour or two.
