I agree with Liz I have see them hide the wigglers in amazing places. Lowest TDS is the best.

Almost ready to get my Rams, wondering if I should take any eggs when and if I get any from the parents and try to raise them. What are your first food to give the little ones?

I always left mine with their parents. They start eating BBS at 2 days of free swimming. The parents love BBS, too. It's a great conditioning food.

    My source water is 350+ TDS 7.6 pH/2-3 KH/ 9 GH
I mixed RO no DI with my tap to get aprox. 100TDS and tested nothing else.
That is the water you want to breed in.
After the fry reach 1 month old slowly switch them to your source and you may get lucky and have pair form that will be able to breed in your tap.
    Seen it many times myself.

It's a bit hit and miss. I asked them where they come from and some say Asia others Holland but then say the Holland fish come from a source in Asia. But my LFS has some small but nice in and another supplier has some good size fish but some distance away. Think I will buy smaller fish and pair them up as I have heard that breeders get rid of their larger fish as the get spawned out because they sell well as large fish. In no hurry as my water treatment plant has a problem with a bouncing pressure gauge no idea what it is as I replaced my old one but still bouncing... oh the joys of fish keeping.

Its wise to grow out young fish. The care and food you give them affects how healthy they will be as adult breeders.besides with such a short lived species you might as well enjoy them as long as you can.

True, shame they don't have a very long life span, high temperatures cut them short?

I thinks its probably a combination of high temperature, fast metabolism and breeding tactics. Rams are always on the go. .. adults spend alot of time/energy in mate selection, sparring and protecting fry. They also mature fast and have very large spawns.

I think the terms " Fast and Furious" fits Rams perfectly.
