    Default Beef heart

Does anyone defrost their beef heart mix before tossing it in the tank? I never have.

I get out a 2x2x1/2 inch block and keep it in the fridge in a zip lock bag. We cut off what we need to feed twice a day. It lasts for three or four days.

This is more interesting than I thought it would be. There must be others around here who either feed it or did in the past.

No but I chop it up into bite size pieces. My hand warms it up then the tank water warms it up even more. The shrimp in my mix binds it so it doesn't dissolve...

I don’t. I take it out from the fridge to the tank. I usually hand feed my fish, so I needed frozen.

When I fed it I just broke a piece off a frozen block and chucked it in the tank. Tanks so warm it thaws pretty fast. If the fish were fry I would shave off what I need and throw that in the tank.

As I said earlier, I break off pieces and toss them in frozen. For y'all who thaw it, why have you found that it's better? I would possibly change my mind and thaw if there was a good reason'

I thaw a few days worth at a time and keep it in the fridge in a zip lock bag. I think it is easier this way. Years ago when we had several tanks of discus we kept it in a small bowl with a plastic cover in the fridge and just scooped out some for each tank.

I think it depends on what is easiest for you. Years ago Carol suggested a salad shooter to cut it up into small worm shaped pieces.

I never much thought about it, Liz. My mentor advised me to thaw first and that was a long time ago. Been doing it ever since, for all frozen foods.

I thaw it out in warm water than roll it between my fingers to distribute it all around the tank more evenly. Gives the slower fish a chance to get some.
