Yesterday I started to prep a 75 gallon tank for a grow out for the Juvies. I wasn't very happy with the silicone job from the factory, lifting and moldy after 2 years. so I removed the old silicone all sides except the bottom since it looked solid. After a nice tape job leaving a 1/4 inch gap I applied the aquarium safe silicone. Pulled the tape off when I was done and looks much better than new. Hopefully by not doing the bottom it will be ok I did overlapped with the old. I also picked some spray paint for the outside bottom (Stone Creations) and some gloss deep blue for the back glass. I might start that part today. I will be using a 80 gallon sponge filter that it's been in the 90 gallon tank seeding and a tidal 110 that I have seeding in my 125. Hopefully with the two filters the tank will be instant cycle. I would like to get it all set up soon since we are going to Florida for a week so no water changes, that will be the last time in our condo before we sell it. No bites yet but I hope next time we go is to sign the paperwork for the sale.

I would do a test fill before moving forward on the 75 gal. Typically, new silicone does not bond to old silicone and I would be cautious to make sure there aren't any potential leak points where the two silicones meet.

I have done this before never had a problem bonding but I always test for leaks leaving in full for at least a full week before I use . It's easy enough to redo. It would have been easier if I could find a used acrylic 75 in the market not a fan of glass anymore.

Sounds good! Just wanted to make sure all bases were covered. I've only ever done full replacements for silicone in tanks, so I was going off all the silicone caulking jobs I've done for window, door, and bath stuff.

Can't wait to see how these juvies grow up and what they will start looking like. Awesome job raising them so far!

75 acrylic is a tough find. Guy was selling one here with everything including his discus. I spoke to him but had to think about it. What to do with the discus, how to remove the water and all. When I got back to him he had sold it. I’ve been looking for a 75.

Finished the 75 gallon tank, painted bottom and back. Filled to test for leaks and so far so good. Soon all these little guys are going to have more space for a while.
