    Default Stick Marsh - Spoonies

The Stick Marsh is a spoonie rookery. People bring/place sticks for the birds to use as nesting materials near the base of the boat ramp then sit near the top of the boat ramp with their cameras. Susan and I got there just as the sun was rising and it just lights up the birds.

Thank you Liz and everyone simply love the spoonies. They are so different from the herons and egrets.

Great pics Pat! I had not realized that the stick marsh was a place where spoonies panhandled for sticks. i think thats pretty cool. Truly fair trade. You guys get great candid shots and they get needed nesting material. Love it.

Thank you Jacob and they are weird looking for sure (flamingos or not) lol. People love these silly birds for their color and that unique bill.

Thank Danny and yes, I love being outdoors and even go out in the summer but early before the sun gets too hot. There's always something to photograph if you pay attention. If you are at the beach and there is not birds that you switch to photographing seashells rolling in the surf.

Thanks Al, actually the first time going to the Stick Marsh a lady photographer was there and she told us about brings sticks for the spoonies. So Susan and I collected a bunch of dry twigs and spanish moss, bagged it and bought it with us for the birds. The images of the spoons returning with the spanish moss came from my house. The Stick Marsh is also called the Fellsmere Grade Recreation Area (use this for mapping) incase you have ever been there.
