Confused Rams

I have a pair of gold rams defending a bunch of eggs and "wigglers".

Seems a colony of ants has decided to use the tank stand as home. The ants move eggs around to regulate temperature and I guess found between the warm tank and foam the perfect temp.

The rams have no eggs there but are defending the corner from other rams. Im going to really hate removing those "eggsand wigglers" but thats nor something I want breeding here.


Little buggers are in my corrugated lid too.

Might be good fish food if you could get them clean of the foam particles.

I use the 2" thick closed cell foam (pink or blue depending on where you buy it) on top of my bee hives and the ants absolutely LOVE to nest in it. Nice and warm above the bees and a ready-made nest material. Way easier than digging in the dirt.

Dang! What kind of ants are they? They look kind of like carpenter ants.

They are much smaller but they are a pita. We call them Pi$$ Ants. They don't do any damage but they do like fishfood and get pretty numerous if conditions are right.. we usually see them in the spring..

Ant suck when they are in the house. I am having issues with small numbers in the kitchen and I hate using bug stray in the house.

Just a few drops where the ants are and they eat it and bring it back to the nest to share.. much safer than broadcast spraying.

Al I use these inside and the outdoors one also that I put around the sliding door and on my deck off the kitchen. Just have to hide them so the cat don't get into them.

Chuck I have used those as well. They also work good as stations. They have the same ingredient as maggies... Sodium tetraborate decahydrate (borax)

What I like about the Terro is the liquid stays in the packet. I put some next to my sink in my basement bar since they like moisture and that helped a lot.

Thanks Al, borax works great. Back when we had this house built prior to the drywall installation the builder suggested adding adding a border of borax along the inside of the outside wall. We had zero bugs for about 10 ten years. Ordered

I use borax on pheromone ants. I use the kind found in the laundry detergent aisle in the grocery store and mix it with sugar and water. Works well.

That's where I used to work. Great company and great products. The ant baits come in liquid or trap form just like Terro. Too bad my boss was a complete bi-polar psychopathic idiot... The crapweasle worked for Terro before Maggie's, lol...

If you're interested in their products on a larger scale, the parent company is Rockwell Labs. Same people, same building, same production staff.
