Default Using tannins, but seeing their colors?

Quick question: can there be a balance where you can use tannins (I like the effect) but still be able to see the best colors of discus without it being too dark?

Leafs from a local, very clean river. Also, I can use coconut husks, right?

I wouldn't take leaves from the river. If you are in the USA.. you can use Oak leaves and bark. .. milled peat moss is good also (use in a nylon sock and put in your filter.) You can also use rooibos tea extract.
