Thread: Skin problem??

  1. #1

    Default Skin problem??

I am having a problem with 2 fish of mine. The top part of the fish looks like it was badly scratched or burned. Not sure. Here is the pic. Second fish has the same thing but very very small. Looks like some kind of skin damage. Any idea??

    Flexy,

Looks like it could be a heater burn, but it could also be a lot of things. I'd add salt and observe the fish to see if it grows/spreads.

It starting to appear all over the fishes body. I don't know what is it. I used to have high nitrite levels for 1 week(tank cycling). Could that be it???

If it's spreading it's likely either a fungal or bacterial problem. Salt is still a very good idea. If fungal, heat would help. If bacterial, heat would be a bad idea.

Or it was a burn and now is a bacterial infection.

As for the nitrates, when I've been lax in w/c with other fish in the past, it really opens the door for a fungal infection.

Try the salt and keep an eye on it. Also try to get a close up pic for us as well.
