JMO Brian, They can be treated very very young, but flukes do not seem to bother them til they are about 3 weeks old. I think Hyde is the best bet for fry, with salt! Frank

it can be Brian but imo hyde is more effective in higher concentration baths when you are trying to knock flukes off fry

Yes Brian- I use the same dose, and even higher levels of salt. I do not like the Trichlor- like fluke tads- because it effects the eating pattern, and makes the fish act as if in a state of suspended animation. Frank

    Hi,
I have seen people use prazi on fry for flukes with apparent good results.

I have also seen salt and formaldehyde. = 1 tblsp/10 gals salt + 3 drops formeldehyde 37%/ gal (got that from one of Cary's posts), (also stated it would be good for the fry if they had a bacterial infection.

I have no experience with discus fry yet, I have just learned these things from others.

    I'll add my .02 here.
when I moved my fry from their dishes to a 10 gallon tank they were good for the first couple of days. on the 3 day I came down and they were all huddled in one back corner of the tank just swimming up and down and not too far from that corner. they all ate, some swam around for a bit then back to the corner. I hit them with 2drops of formalin per gallon and a 50% water change after 8 hours.
They were 2 weeks old at the time. Ever since they are all over the tank and doing great!!!!

    Good Deal Everyone ;D

I have treated fry as young as two weeks old at 22ml per 15 gals or 4ml per 10 liters for a 1/2 hour bath with great results.

I allways make sure tank is very clean before I start! and add lots of o2 to the tank with airstones. I use 37% hyde at PH 7.4 KH 6 Gh7 temp 86F.

Like Frank said salt works well as a good combo treatment! But I would only use it with the 3 drop per gal 8 HR bath.

    Hi all,
Cary, am I reading this correctly..............."add lots of Co2 to the tank with airstones" ??? Is this for a Formalin treatment or some other kind of med? I know Formalin depletes the D.O levels in the tank, so you would want to bump up levels with agitation, bubble contact, etc. I assume that is a mis-type and should be "add lots of O2 via airstones". By the way, my January birthday brother...........we are almost the big 34, huh! "Yikes"
