    Default How many worms ?

How long will 1/2 pound of blackworms last if feeding 10 4-5.5" discus ? I have never bought them by the pound before and I can't picture what a 1/2 pound would look like .

    Hi,
    I have 7 discus (had 8)
I order 1 lb at a time. I feed average 3 times daily with blackworms. It usually lasts me 6 wks. I feed 1 heaping teaspoon at a time.

When I used to feed twice a day, it lasted 2 months.

My fish are over a yr old.

Make sure not to overfeed as the discus will pig out and get swollen bellies and need a laxative (epsom salt) or it can get worse.

They can't stop eating them ;D

How long will blackworms live in my refigerator? I was under the impression that they are only fresh for 1-2 weeks.

I've kept them 3 weeks easy and have read of others on this board who keep them over a month. . . . .

However, I try to only buy as much as I will use in two weeks.

To reply to ardan's comment, what are signs/symptoms of a swollen belly after gorging on CBW. What is the tbsp/gal for epsom salt? ???

Fred Flinstone needs to buy a pound. 1/2 pound of CBW will probably last him 10 days if fed 3x day. I feed 8 3-5" discus 3x day of CBW and a pound lasts me a month.

I feed 1 1/2# of CBW weekly. Sometimes more. Best food for the money.

Epsom salt is dosed at 1 or 2 TEAspoons per TEN gallons. Fish should be better in 4 hours or you can redose.

    Hi,
Here is a pic with a discus with bloat or swollen belly. SOmetimes they stop eating, and sometimes hang in a corner of the tank too.

See the swollen sides behind and below the pectoral fin. (side fin)

I know cories don't like salt, but how about Epsom salt? Can it be safely used?

1 or 2 teaspoons epsom salt will not ham corys. A bloated discus is easy to tell. It will usually swim at the top at an angle and sort of shimmy there. You will know it when you see it. Frank
