They're illegal to have in my state! So even if I wanted to, I can't. ;D

When I started my 135 gallon tank about 5 months ago I was going to do rays and Discus. My research showed they would be pretty compatible. However I decided to go with a planted tank and the rays need a lot of free roaming around area on the bottom so I have a community tank with Discus and no rays. In addition, rays get pretty large and an 18 inch wide tank (100 gallon)would be a bare minimum, larger would be better. If you do go with rays go with a Motoro as they are pretty hardy for a less expensive ray. Do not go with Hystrix or Teacup rays. Rays require the same diligence (water changes) as Discus.

http://www.aquaforums.com/forums/ is a good forum on rays and one moderator (David in new york) operates a web site wilddiscus.com.

I guess if one had a huge tank they could get along, but if I had a huge tank I would just want more discus!

When I first set up my 125 I had no idea what I wanted to put in it and ended up getting a teacup stingray. Then I saw some discus for sale in the paper very reasonable and put them in there too. The stingray lived for a year or so, and the discus lived for several more years. However, knowing what I know now about discus, I don't think I would because I would be too concerned about bringing parasites, etc. into the tank from the stingrays food.

Cool looking tank, fabulas discus. I would be happy with just the discus, the ray would be too much work above and beyond the discus.

I dont think the food should be an issue, its easy to feed rays by hand so there isnt any extra food......... and if its frozen first it shouldnt carry anything.
