Default All Canucks should read this

Just returned from Big Als in Calgary and they advised to purchase any Methylene Blue for future use .
It is going to be a banned product from the US .
The only wayin the future to obtain this will be through your vet

The importer will re-label the product , change the name and sell them twice as much as before. It's just another way to increase prices. They will come back with a new name. Magic ink or somethng like Metro in General Cure.

Pardon me, but meth blue is common dye used in machine shops, I doubt that they will take it off the market.

Going through engineering school it was a right of passage to have one of your hands and forearms dyed.

Methylene blue is also used in medical practices, and is one of the safest dyes out there. :-\ I'd be interested in any info you "canucks" can dig up as to what the issue with it is?

    thanks,
    al

Incidentally... If you guys are looking to stock up...Jehmco.com sells it as a powder and at a cheap price... Its not listed on their sited though.

Yea I heard all this a couple of years ago!! Something about people buying fish meds and using them on themselves? Then I heard the Government wanted Vets to sell all Aqua meds and they for the most part said they do not want too as many of them know very little about fish. Try to buy meds where I live it is crazy!!!! So what I do is get our scientist at work to purchase some of the meds for me!!!! Works perfect!!! If any of you need anything and are stuck let me know, maybe I can help you out. I already stocked up so I should be good for awhile!!!!

I just read an artical on meth.bluand to quote its use

--Meth blu can be used to increase oxigen in the water but other than that it provides little other beifit in the fish tank.
This information was from another Discus site and the source is a qualified discus keeper.

    Just a note to Haywire
I think you might be wrong here as it is classed as a medicine .
What purpose does meth blu have in a machine shop ???
Your not talking about gun blu or metal bluing are you.

    ken,
Not sure where your source got their information on Methylene blue or what a "qualified discus keeper" is ??? but Meth blue is excellent for fungus, and is an antibiotic for bacteria. It has been used as dip for flukes and other parasites for decades. Its offers protection against Nitrite poisoning. It is extremely safe to use.

also to the best of my knowledge methylene blue does not increase oxygen in the water. But when oxygen is present the dye is blue (this is an oxidized state), when Oyxgen is lacking...the dye is colorless(this is its reduced state). In this sense meth blue technically uses oxygen by being oxidized by it.

Its actually a common science experiment for school kids...

as some forms of the dye are used as an oxygen indicator.

    Hth,
    al

ps Ken... Methylene blue is used in lots of areas..
