It's pretty much impossible with Discus until they actually spawn! You are also right about full grown adults males tend to be much bigger. Anymore questions please feel free to ask!
Love the colours of these Jack - plus great video of Dad!
I' new to the world of Discus (though not trop fish), so apologies if this sounds like a daft question but how do you tell the difference between a male and female? I know size wise when they mature, but is there a way when that are say 3 inches big?

I'd like to see this thread re-done for 2023... I do not have anything to contribute, yet.
Ed ,
Thats a really great idea! The initial intent of the thread was to post pics of fish you bred yourself but we have a really good network of Hobbyists breeding and sharing with their fellow hobbyists here on SImply so I think it would be ok to expand the thread to include fish you are raising that were hobbyist bred by other SimplyDiscus members. I think we will have more participation that way. Theres really not a lot of hobbyists that are breeding and growing out to adult their fry. Its a big endeavor.
Some of the original images in this thread were lost when we did some software moves here way way back and then when we were hacked years ago. Almost all of my current discus were bred and raised by me, and then I have 2 groups bred by Brian (Jeep) and being raised by me. I can definitely contribute here. I know Liz and Brian can contribute and Tom as well. I wonder if Carter has his fry still? There should be some good content in this thread.
I would encourage members to post here, don't worry about if the pics are not perfect.
No fish though that were imported, that can be a whole other thread and would be a great thread too,

As soon as the USPS gets around to delivering my camera. As of this morning it's still in MA. Good old USPS.
Mama Bear
I'll post some of my batch that hatched out the last week of September sometime today or tomorrow. I'm hopeful about these because it's the first group to hatch since my water issues seem to be getting better...
Now that I am not going any ware for a while I will separate one pair to it's own tank with some soft RO water an see if I have any luck. Both pairs have been spawning in the 125 every week but the well water is at TDS 240 so no hatching.

It'll get here eventually. The post office always gets stuff to where it's going...eventually. I'm so thankful not to have to trust them with my shipments any more.
