Default could this be the result on inbreeding?

I just bought a Red Rose from my LFS, I have bought many quality Discus from him in the past (import from Singapore). I grabbed what I thought was a nice fish, got him into the QT tank where he hid till this AM. I noticed a lump on the spine right where the caudal fin attaches to the fish, and it actually cause the tail to be slightly bent. Could this be from to many X's in the same family like F4 or F5?
    Thanks,
    Tom

not likely..just genetics period. could happen in first generation..or 7th. hard to see in the pic. is it the tail you feel is bent angled? or is there a bump on the side?

    Sounds like a deformed spine.

Most likely not genetic but you will find out the next generation, even crosses will sometimes
    have fin problems too.

I would take it back and exchange for a good one. I would not use it for breeding. I cull fish with this defect. It is not an uncommon spinal deformity which can be genetic, congenital or injury early during development.. They can arise from anything from F1 wild fish fry to Fxxx gen domestics. No big deal unless you paid for it.

I looked at others in the same tank at the LFS there were no other
deformed fish, my local dealer offered to replace it but told me he didnt want it back.
It's a little too big to be culled and my daughter will be upset if I get rid of it, so he/she will join a few other members of Discus show tank that will never be breeders.
