Default Formalin to treat Gill flukes

Hello, has anyone had success on killing these pesky parassites with Formalin???
if yes can you please share your secret with me, i'm going nuts and after a microscope analysis they are still there laughing at Praziquantel.
I have Formalin 37% now and i'm determined on winning this war.
Can i ask for some help out there??
    Thank you.

Fromaldehyde 37% is effective for gill worm but not the spores. They will hatch in 7 days and the cycle will start all over again. If you can find a way to get rid of the spores, you will win.

Theoretically. If you have more than one tank I'd treat all your tanks. Adults usually carry flukes, but aren't affected. Easy to reinfect tanks.

Hi Carol, yes i'm treating every tank i have at the same time, i just want to make sure i don't overdose the formalin.
Could my Discus have side effects from it??
Some of them look a little lazy and jumpy, very jumpy.

Are you dosing 1 cc per 10 gallons every other day with 50% WC 8 hrs after treatment?

Have you added extra air and kept temp about 84 degrees?

I think 14 days should do it, but may be wrong . . .

I add 1.5 teaspoon per 100 gallon as raccomended every other day and i do 50% water change the next day, plus i do a 50 % water change just before the next treatment.
Do you think its good enough??

The directions I've given you are what I use with formalin - 37% formaldehyde.

I have Discus in a community tank with some small Cories and Tetras. The some of the Cories (I have lost one) and some of the Tetras, are experiencing labored breathing which I believe are gill worms. I have no problems with NH3 or NO2, and I do 60-70% WC 3-4x week. But, my Discus do not appear to have any problems. They are breathing normal, there color is good, and they are eating very well. The Discus are not adults. They are only little more the two inches in diameter. Any suggestions... ???

I use formalin the same way Carol does. Jimbo if your discus are fine. The cories and tetras might be having problems from the temperature that we keep discus at. You also might want to try and add an extra airstone to the tank.

I have thought about the temp and low O2. I have two 8 inch air two stones in a 70 gallon tank. I only have about 1/2 as much air going through the stones as I could. I could turn the pump up a bit, to see if that helps. Again, my discus show no signs of stress. Their appetites are ferocious, color is good, and they are very active.

Could someone post the treatment schedule for using fluebendazol? ??? What are the advantages/disadvantages of using hyde versus fluebendazol? I gave up on Prazi awhile back. :-\

    Thanks,

    Tim
