Furan 2 - help. can't get any

Hi all,
I'm thinking of trying artifical rearing but I can't get Furan 2.
I've ask around the lfs and they all say AP don't make it any more.
Help, What can I use as a substitute?

See if you can get these ingredients...

methylene blue
nitrofurazone
furazolidone

They are whats in furan-2

I have used meth blue and nitro alone and they work.

Meth blue alone would probably work if you are meticulous with your water changes the first 3 days...once they are BBS you don't need the meds any more...

hmm, the last two look like prescribed drugs. I'll what I can come up with.

Assuming I can get all 3, what is the mix?

each capsule of furan -2 contains..
60 mg..nitrofurazone
25 mg furazolidone
2 mg methylene blue trihydrate

I've read most of your fantastic posts re: artificial rearing. They were very informative and has prompted me to try it out for myself.

I have one last question (for now) What percentage survival (death) rate am I to expect WITHOUT the use of meds from free swimming stage?

-on the question, the survival rate really depends largely on you. The meds are added because the egg mix the fry are fed rapidly fouls the water. This is caused by bacteria. The furan -2 is a good inhibitor of many of the bacterias responsible for this. With its use you can usually do 3 feeding/ and water change a day. ith out the meds those first 3 days on egg based food... you may have to change the water and food several times more. This will depend on how many fry and how much water there is in the pan and how much food you smear on the pans walls. be sure to spread it lightly, very lightly.
