Hey there, welcome, I'm right down south in vacaville. Got any pics?
Hi All, I just joined the club two weeks ago. I am very interested in gleaning knowledge from the many experiences of you more advanced hobbyists. I found a rather nondescript discus pair several years ago and when they spawned and raised their young successfully the first time, I was in awe. Whole little fishes from eggs and sperm. What I miracle!
Alas, the pair of parents died w/i a few months due to my inexperience. I now have a pair of PB parents that spawn regularly but eat the eggs. I have very successfully artificially raised the fry using BBS and a powder type food used for trout that a fellow groupie gave me. Works very well.
Only problem I've had is losing several entire spawns at about 1 month of age from what I think is gill flukes. The last several times I have used Prazipro and have had no problems. Raised the little guys to saleable size.
I have a spawning tank, a couple of tanks for the fry, and a community 120 gallon tank with 12 adult discus, two Bolivian Rams, and seven really pretty Roseline barbs.
Anyway, I look forward to learning from ya'll.

Hey Mike,
Do you have any connection with the U.C. Davis Labs?

I do have pictures but I need to figure out how to attach and send them. Not too experienced at this. I have a new digital camara and have saves some pics on my home computer so will have to take some time to learn how to send. Any quick suggestions?

When you hit the "Post" button if you scroll down you will see "Additional Options" within that box you'll see "Manage Attachments" just hit that button. You will almost certainly need to run the pictrures from your camera through a software program first to make them a smaller resolution. If they are over 80Kb they will be rejected.
If they are bigger then 80kb for a quick way just go through MSPaints and resize thats what I do but if you want to keep the original picture then save the resized one under "save as" and name it. Hope this helps!!
I'm not sure I'm doing this picture thing correctly, but here goes. This is my "community" tank, 120 gallons. Contains 13 juvenile/adult discus, 2 Bolivian Rams, 7 Rose-line barbs. Following are closer pics of the fish.
Purchases at about 2.5 inches in size, called a "Flora".
Morning Sun
A meeting of the minds.
Dragon King, about 7 inches in diameter.
"Blueberry". I have a series of pics that include my 40 gallon tank with a pair of PBs that are spawning regularly, a 5 gallon tank with 25 day old fry, and a 26 gallon tank with 2 month old fry. Those pics still need downloading from the camera, which I will do tomorrow and send them off.
Talk to you then.
hey mate,re problem with young dying the best and safest thing i have tried for fluke and believe me iv'e tried alot is fluke tabs 1 tablet per 20 litres of water but you must remedicated 7 days later to stop the egg cycle.
