My interests are slightly different than the norm here on simply. I like the old-school Heckel discus. But I also like the new domestic strains. My curiosity then led me to try to cross one of the old school existing strains with the new school strain.
I have a confirmed male Heckel. He is been successful in other spawns with another female. I didn't love the female so I bought a red turquoise female from Hans. She is a confirmed female as she has laid eggs in the past. In fact if you look at Hans most recent video she is sitting on a clutch of eggs with a brilliant turquoise male. I absolutely love this female.
They've been together for approximately a week and a half and it appear like they're ready to spawn. They seem to get along very well and are a good pair together.
Both have exceptionally straight lines and I hope that they pass that characteristic trait onto their offspring.
I expected it would take much longer but obviously I'm happy it's this early. I realize there's still a long way to go but this is a good first step.
Eggs are being laid as I write this post.
Enjoy the video.

Did you know the female was not a new arrival. She was actually leftover from the previous shipment. I didn't believe Hans and went and rewatched the old video and she was there. Not well document via video so she slipped through.
I'm sitting here watching the Male clean a cone with the 2010 NADA Open Class 2nd place female Hi Bodied Turq clean a cone.
Don't worry. I'll be flip flopping them at some point.
P.S. -- I love the straight-line brilliant male you picked up in tank one!
Yeah hes a beauty, I didnt get my shipment until yesterday because I had to wait till after the storm because of how busy things have been here and then there lol. But those two brilliants are both incredible. And yeah I remember that Brilliant, My SS Red pair was from that shipment as well, which makes three boxes from that shipment lol. Mine were on hold though and someone just didnt pay for them, some good fish from last shipment and this one might have even been better. Absolutely beautiful Pigeons and plenty of beautiful others.

So she laid a bunch of eggs. He had a terrific caviar dinner. Every single time she laid the eggs he followed and ate em all up!

Amazing fish! Have you thought about trying a mesh arround the cone to protect the eggs?
Believe it or not this happened 20 minutes after a 75 percent water change. That is likely the stress that is shown. Just a guess.
Juanjo - they are eaten before they are fertilized. Once laid and fertilized they will go in a Hans incubator.
Very nice pair and congratz.... Love the RT...
