    Default Opinion on watts needed

I just filled a new 110 g tank yesterday afternoon with tap water and and have been heating it up with two 200 watt heaters. The tap water was cold!! I checked the temp this morning before I left for work and it was only up to 21 C (70 F). Will this be enough wattage to keep the temp at a constant 30 C (86 F)? I can't wait to get home tonight to see what the temp is at!!

I figure 5 watts per gallon. You need 550 watts. Can you add a 350 watt heater and use the extra 200 watt for your storage water?

    Warren,
whats the difference from the room temp to what your trying to get? I think your ok if all you want is to get to 86 but you might need another if you need to bump it up to 90.

I think you may be pushing it with 1- 200W heater.....and it has been my experience that the 5w per gallon is way high.....(sorry carol.. ) It does depend allot on the temp of the air around it but I would think you would be good with a pair of 150W.
I am using twin 200W to heat a 155g and I can get it to 90. But I don't think a single 200w would be enough to cook the tank if it malfunctioned.....thus the twin set-up...

I have a 125 and use 2 300w heaters. One on either side of the tank. It works great for me.

Thanks everyone for the feedback...When I got home tonight the temp in the tank was only up to 80 F (26C). That is after 24 hours. I am using 2 200 watt Rena Cal Top light Excel Heaters. The tank is in my basement and the room temp is approx 72F (22C). One thing I noticed with the 2 Rena heaters, even though I have them set at 89 F, the heaters keep shutting off when the water temp is only at 80F. I would think the heaters should stay on continually until the set temp is reached. I think I went abit light on the total wattage so I have now added a third 200 watt heater (Hagen Tronic). After 2 more hours with the third heater, the water temp is up to 82F.

    I've 200G in total in the basement, I'm running 1 350W (won titanium 1), 2-200W (Ebo)

eventually it will be switched to 2 350's and the ebo's will be for quarantine and fry.

5 tanks on the system, the 350 in the sump, the 200's in the larger pair of tanks (50's), and all 5 are rock steady at 84
