Carol, that sure looks a lot easier, and you could justify it for making cool salads.

And, if you have been around long enough, you could never forget Kees!
He had some great ideas. I hope he still has discus. Paul.

Kee was posting as late as last year in profile with G. Sim. I wonder if Profile is still aoround. Carol's S. shooter is a lot better than my skin peeler. Hard labour to shave it in small pieces on a block of icy BH.

    Report on Carol’s Beef Heart.

Carol was kind enough to give me a baggy of her beef heart. It defrosted a bit on the way home, so I didn’t have the nice loose pack, after it went back into the freezer.
It was still about 50 times easier to feed than my frozen blocks.

A few of the fish were reluctant and looked it over. After they saw the other fish going for it, the frenzy was on. They all eat from my hand after a week.

Before I started using it, the tanks and pre filter sponges were cleaned. After several days, they were still in good shape, just a little mulm.

It ran out, and I went back to my concoction. About five days later, did major water change and cleaned the tanks. On the bottom of the pre-filter, where I couldn’t see it, was a good portion of my beef heart - looking very ugly.

Had planned to use up all of my mix and then switch. Tomorrow, it goes to the neighbors cats, I hit the meat market, and break out the salad shooter.

Carol’s Beef heart, goes in the fish, not the filter! I’m sold!

By the way- I have been religiously putting garlic in my beef heart, thinking that it killed worms or what ever in the fish. I spent about a week, de-lousing, a batch of little ones, that had been feed worms. Don’t know if the little white worms in the tank, were good or bad, but they got my attention! They are gone, and I think I will save the garlic for Italian Food!

I still believe in Santa Claus and Black Cats!

Carol, will it work for medications? Will it hold the meds when soaked in the solution, have you tried it?? Seems like it would be better than trying to soak live cbws of bws in it, just a thought, lol Dottie ;D

Is the sliced beefheart (or any beefheart) available at most grocery stores? I assume it's not generally packaged for sale in the refrig. section, that you have to ask for it from the meat manager?

Carol, Have you tried this with other frozen foods like the big bricks of frozen Hikari brine shrimp or blood worms? Would they be easier to feed and store?

The bloodworms and brineshrimp thaw into small discus sized bites.

I realize that the food thaws into bite size pieces but handling the 8" X 12" brick seems to get messy over time. My wife really doesn't like handling the frozen food any more than she has to and having her help with feeding when I am not at home is a huge help. She doesn't mind the foods that come in the pre-made cubes. I was wondering if "pelletizing" brine worms for easy handling was a viable option since the bulk packages are cheaper than the cubes. ( especially from our buddy Dan the worm guy!) Guess I will just have to try this experiment myself sometime.
