    Default Capillaria or deworming discus

Ok folks, I would like to know what people have used with sucess to deworm discus? Also did you put it in the water? Or did you put it in the food?

I know Rocky Mountain discus sells a food for deworming discus. Has anybody used it? And how did it work out?

Some of the different medications are; fenbendazole (panacur), levamisole, mebendazole (telmintic), flubenol 5%, piperazine

prizantiquil (not sure of the spelling), otherwise known as prazi is excellent for de-worming. Bought mine from Jehmco, but there are other sources. Had to sign a Drug Certificate before they could ship. You can buy it pure (expensive) or mixed with salt (reasonable price).

Am told it's the same med used for deworming dogs

    good luck

    Hi Jerry,
Deworming is best done based on what kind of worms you think the fish has....Often its a guess unless a lab report is availible.

    heres what i would use..

Tapeworms... Prazi quantel... Its the best....used in many species of animals for that purpose.. It can be added to the food or to the water. Results are seen in 12-24 hours as tape worms are excreted. It works on flukes as well...(body and gills) . It may work on capillaria and other nematodes... not much in the literature on it.. and the worms are so small , you often can't see them.

capillaria... and other roundworms... flubendazole... in the food or water...watch out for possible side effects such as tail or head standing. ...mebendazole ... same as flubendazole.

Panacur...very strong broad spectrum....NEVER ADD TO THE TANK WATER>>> only in the food.

Piperazine... works on adult worms...can be added to food or water.

There are many others there Jerry, Drop me an IM and I'll help you figure out which is best for you.

    hth,

You don't have to mix prazi with food, just add to your water. hth.
