Talk about Ich for a second...
Now in cichlid tanks...where the water temp is normally 76-78 ich can occur more frequent in stressed fish.
I was under the impression that in order to erase or cure ich in the tank you needed to raise the water temp above 80 to kill the spores. Now in most of our discus tanks the water is an average of 84 to 86 right? So...how is it that ich can come about or even multiply in the warmer waters? I realize that every fish alive has a case of ich, but was just wondering if discus are more or less immune to it.

Re:Talk about Ich for a second...
Hi,
If the temp is kept at 82F or above, the discus should never get ich. Ich doesn't survive at those temps.
Many parasites are temp sensitive. Costia, chilodonella, etc.
Many times temps over 90F to 94F will kill off those parasites without needing to use meds. (some parasites are tougher than others and then high heat + meds is very effective)

I have never got ich in my discus tank.
My gold fish tank gets them all the time but that is easily fixed.

they mustve let the temperature drop below eighty..and then stress set in..and voila.
thats the way i heard it also. discus dont get ick as their temps are too high.
