I presently have 22 adults and near adults in my 180 gallon and I feel I could easily have more. My maintenance regimen is 50% every 2 days with a 75% on Saturday or Sunday.

Hello all, I was wondering how may adult discus I could put in my 180 and 125. I do a 1/2 water change on each every other night or if time gets away every third night. Thanks for looking.

Depends on the amount of W/Cs You want to do and Your filter System!

My general rule of thumb is at least 5 gallons of water per adult and I do 25-30% water changes daily.
I agree with Cary that, amount and frequency of WCs and filtration plays a big part in determining stocking levels...The rule of 10 gallons per fish is always a good safe approach IMO.

Thanks for answering. Both my tanks get a 50% water change every other night. My 180 has an Emperor 400, 2 hydro 5's, and 3 hydro 4 sponge filters. My 125 has an Emperor 400, an Aqua Clear 500 (the big one) an Aqua Clear 300, and 2 hydro 5"s. All sponges and prefilters as well as the Aqua Clear foam gets rinsed in tank water every second to third water change. I am thinking of putting a Rainbow 300 fluidized bed filter on the 180 for additional filtration. I currently have 11 adults in the 180 and 16 adults in the 125. Want to put most of them together and see if some pairs develop. Thanks again for looking.
