Hi Pat, well, yes he was expensive but I got him twenty seven years ago along with his brother at the bottom of the photo. He is a Green Winged Macaw named Scarlotta. They are both twenty seven years ago and they are my closest companions. We have gone through a lot of highs and lows in our lives.

Rufus, I currently have one of the smaller African Greys named Marco. The summer I graduated from high school my mom bought me a cockatiel for my birthday. That bird went to college with me and better then halfway through my marriage with Tom. He lived for 25 years. Still miss that bird.

Pat, That's how I started. I had a pet cockatiel named Perry that also lived for seventeen years and then when I moved to Florida I bought these two guys

I drive around South Beach with the birds on a vespa scooter. They are big personalities here.

How old is your African Grey? What's it's name and send me a pic. I know this is a Discus forum but what the heck! LOL! I have two cats, and loads of Discus.

Rufus, Marco is about 8 years old now and originally I bought him (think he is a she) for my daughter but them did not hit it off.

This is Marco hanging upside down from my hand.

Pat, What a cutie!!!! Does he talk a lot. African Grays are the very best talkers. Thanks for introducing him/her. You can send in a blood feather and then sex him or her but if it isn't important to you then don't bother. It's expensive. I did it with my two boys because I didn't want to breed them nor did I want to have to deal with eggs. Best Regards. Rufus

Thanks Rufus, he talks a fair amount and timing is perfect. I walk in the kitchen and he asks if I'm hungry. Walk in from the garage "hello there". I had a yellow nape and she was a talker. Pepper would have complete conversations in my and Toms voices. You would swear there were other people in the house besides yourself.

I know what you mean. My boys are not great talkers like your Marco but they say goodbye to me when I go to work and very loudly HELLO, when get home! The green winged has about thirty phrases he says such as, Want some when he wants food which is continuously, Hey baby! I'm a bad bird and I love you! His brother the Hyacinth makes kissing noises and loves to whistle. Hope we all meet someday. By the way my unproven pair has continued to mind the eggs. Some are getting cloudy but the main batch is still this lovely orange color. The male, which I'm pretty sure he is is minding the eggs very diligently. We shall see. I wasn't prepared from breeding but they are by themselves in a very quiet area of my bedroom and they seem very comfortable and peaceful. I've only had them for two weeks so was totally surprised that they would breed. My water is high in PH so I doubt that I will get wrigglers but it is a good start. Today was water changing day for four tanks and I'm going to pick up my new fifty five gallon today. Best regards. Rufus.

Rufus, hatch rates are based off the softness of the water vs the ph.
