That's an outstanding tank. Tell us a little about it.
While I love my 100 gallon discus show tank, the small tanks can be just as much fun.
Here is my 10 gallon invertebrate tank, whose main residents are various shrimps and snails.
Ludwigia arcuata, amazing how well it does without the help of CO2.
red cherry shrimp:
bumblebee shrimp babies:
crystal red shrimps:
a new born crystal red shrimp:
It is amazing how efficient the red cherry shrimp clean new plants. Throw an algae covered stem in it, 15 minutes later, the cherries give you back a completely clean one.
Bought some SALTWATER Virgin nerites. Acclimated them a little too fast, some did not make it, three did and are doing great, they love eating algae and especially the green spot algae(GSA).
Put some asian freshwater clams into the HOB filter. They are fun to watch and improves water quality,
Also got two purple apple snails
a cherry red immediately went to check it out,
That's an outstanding tank. Tell us a little about it.

Are those crystal reds? Where did you get them or do you have extra your willing to part with (sell)? LOL, I have a 5 gallon shrimp tank in my office (but I have some guppies in there too).
Shalu,
THe picks won't show
Really? I posted the pics on quite a few places and it is the first time I heard the problem. Try this, right click on any picture and choose properties, and copy and paste the Address(URL) directly in the browser address bar. Let me know what happens.Originally Posted by MoOcHiE525
tpl*co, yes, those are crystal reds, I bought them on aquabid.com. There are now regular auctions there, quite a few people started selling them.
ODwyerPW, thanks. This is a low tech tank with no CO2 supplement. Lighting is via cheap 2x15w screw-on CF bulbs in standard 10 gallon hood. Ferts dosing: KNO3, K2SO4, KH2PO4 and Flourish. You can read a lot more about my tank here:

Wow Cool Stuff- Very inspiring- Is it a lot of work. What is your cleaning regiment, water hardness etc etc......
thanks.Originally Posted by KD
it is quite low maintanance, because plants grow slowly without CO2 supplement. Weekly water change 20-50%, no gravel siphoning, no additional cleaning, shrimps/snails/clams do ALL the cleaning for me. I just sit back and enjoy I keep the water on the soft side, kh and gh in the range of 2-5 degrees, I thought softer water might help shrimp breed, like for Discus And breed they do!
Coooool... Shalu... Cooooool.....
That's really neat. Thanks for sharing.

Shalu, beautiful small tank! I want one like that! I have 2 10 gal tanks, not much going on in them, how do I get started?
thanks, guys/gals.
wolfbane, do you have experience with planted tank at all? planted tank is a hobby just like the discus hobby, so there is always a learning curve. There a few sites dedicated to planted tanks, so that is a good starting point to learn about them: plantedtank.net, aquaticplantcentral.com are my favorite sites. You will find tons of info about planted tanks on those sites. The key is the balance of light/CO2/nutrients. There are also a few useful sticky threads on the top of this forum. After you get familiar with the basics and have specific questions, I will be happy to help you.
Shalu, I have experience with low light plants, Java fern, crypts, etc. never had a high light tank though. I did grow a hugh Amazon sword one time, not sure how I did it, it just grew from a little one into a monster. And that was in a tank with a UGF. yes, need to learn about lighting and all, guess I'll get started reading. Thanks.
Shalu, I would love to have something like that, can ya please tell me the dimensions of that tank and what kind of lighting your using ???
It is an outstanding tank to say the least.....
Bravo
Jas
Shalu,
You DEFINITELY started something here! In addition to my discus tanks I have a 10 gallon with two geriatric tetras and two oticinclus who I think I'll be sending to my boyfriends' office tank. I was gonna break down and store that tank, but NOT NOW!
That is SOOOO COOL. I'm definitely going to start planning and researching to make my 10 gallon tank like that (at least I hope like that).
