Red face Artificial raising of young Discus

I am facing problem of my mated pairs discus as they have spawning several times (more than 30) and out of that 20 times were successful spawning i.e. hatching stage.
Unfortunately my pairs do not allow the larvae to feed from their yolk sac and they neglect them until they die. I have tried so may methods like separating them or keeping natural enemy with them but it did not work.
I red long time ago posting for Brewmaster15 having this subject in details.

    Regards,
    Tariq

I have had the same problem in the past and it's really a lost cause.

Here's what I do and works for me:

Once the pair has spawned, fertilized the eggs and the eggs hatch I transfered the whole entire cone to another breeders tank. The Foster Parents will take care of the brood as if it were their own, BUT i've found that you can NOT do this with every pair as some a more territorial than others and can associate a one brood from another. In some cases it helps to even be of the same strain. The pair that you will transfer the wigglers to have to be caring and familiar with raising young... if not they will just eat them up. It's a bit tricky, but I've done it in the past.

    Tariq,
Artificial raising Discus can be done with a bowl with added egg yoke paste.
The type of egg yoke best use when first starting would be the baker egg yoke. Paste a small amount of yoke on the side of the bowl and raise the
water level up to the yoke level. Change the water every hour on your first
try, on the 3rd day try feeding BBS, if only a small percentage takes the
BBS keep feeding the yoke for 5 days. At the end of the 5th day you can
    feed the BBS.

    Good Luck!

When Cliff Young speaks on the subject of artificially raising fry everyone should stop and take good notes. I've seen his operation first hand and it's nothing short of remarkable.
Seek ye the truth and the truth will set you free.

Many Thanx Cliff it looks easy and interesting. Changing the water every hour means I have to take leave from work and sleep beside them.

Looking good, Cliff. When it comes to artificial raising or just simply raising discus, Cliff is a cut above. His methods are second to none and I can personally vouch for that.

Cliff has the magic touch. I can't describe the feeling when you see all those bowls filled with tiny fry. If only I had one tenth of the success that he has...........!

    Ryan, Phil and Brigitte,
I thank you for your kind words.

    Cliff

    Tariq,
Hopefully you will have free swimming frys on the weekend this will give
you more time to work on the frys. Changing water every hour is only
for the first batch of frys, if you are successful on the next batch do
waterchanges every few hours, work your waterchanges up to 12 hours.
This will allow you to go to work and raise your frys.

    Tariq,
You have the "Best" in Cliff giving you sound instruction and direction!

When it comes to Artificial Rearing discus...the knowledge and success that Cliff has demonstrated with "Thousands" of fry going at the same time is the most incredible thing that I have ever witnessed.....Ive been to Cliffs twice and have been nothing but awe struck!!!
Just for the record "Phil" aka crimson cross is no slouch at Artificial rearing...Ive had the pleasure of visiting his hatchery too

Best of luck with your fry Tariq,
    Tad

    Hi Cliff,

Does the removal of the eggs from the parents improve the hatch rates at all or would you only remove when eggs have hatched?

    Hi fishfan,
The eggs are remove around 1 hour after spawning. They are place in a bowl
with methylene blue(see picture upper right) the hatching water is made up
of tap and R.O., this combination with adjustment of ph will give me a better hatching rate then straight out of the tank water.

    great thread guys!

just a couple questions for the 2 excellent breeder's Cliff and Phil if you guys don't mind.

    1. what was the earliest age you've ever gotten fry to take bbs after free-swimming?

and 2. in a spawn raised artificially compared to parent raised frys from the same pair, is there a cull difference or higher rate of defects between the 2 methods? I know there is alot of variables to consider though.
