Nice job with the planted tank, I do like the IKEA idea for a stand , Your RSGs are fantastic and wish you success with their breeding. Are your RSG's from Daniel Matthaeus?
best of luck,
Tad
Fantastic
Iīm going to Germany next week . Where can i buy discus like yours ?
Regards
Really nice! I never knew Ikea furniture could actually hold the weight! Very cool idea and practical.
Gorgeous RSG's and awesome pictures as well!
Another question
I canīt see your filter Where is it ?
Hallo Jontxu,
I bought the discus 1.5 year ago with approx 10cm ( inch) in diameter. At this time the 6 discus had only some few light red colored spots.
Since then (Jan 2004), the discus are still growing and, indeed still getting more and more color/pattern. The biggest of the group hadn't any spot for nearly 14 month. Now, it's getting one point after the other. (so guys, dont't give up to early with wild RSGs!)
I bought the discus at a local german dealer, Rainer Boettner (-> TAD, you are an expert! a friend of Daniel Mattheaus, I think they are dealing with the same exporteurs in Brazil).
Unfortunately, my dealer gave his shop up in February this year. Perhaps you can try at Daniel Matthaeus: amazon-exotic-import.de
(But it will still be a matter of luck, the right timing and later constant good water quality to raise them to healthy adults)
Last year I moved and bought the new big tank, so I added 2 adult RSG.
The filter:
I am using only a JUWEL inside filter, I am not sure if you guys know that product (german engineeing...). It is quite an easy black plastic construction with foam filling and enough space for the heater and pH-meter inside.
Hallo Jesse,
it is absolutely regular quarz sand ( 0,8-1,2 mm particle diameter) from the do-it-yourself store.
I attach some pictures I made after the arrival of the young fishes at the beginning of the year 2004.

the young wilds - part 2
The discus in the center of the pict is the fish on the picture in Post #16 of this thread (today the "beau"...)

the young wilds - part 3
the same fish now after 16 month in my tank...
Alex,
Thanks for sharing more pictures of your "extremely fine" specimens of wilds..Your husbandry skills and excellent stock definately brings to the forefront how beautiful wilds truely are! As for knowing the source it was actually pretty easy as all top end wilds in Germany seem to originate from Daniel Mattheaus
Excellent job and Im quite envious,
Tad
Wow. My fantasy tank.

pat.

One question, regarding your furniture. How long have you had the desk for? Is it real wood or compressed materials? Your tank seems to be like a 150 gallon and I'd be worry about the Ikea furniture holding up over heavy tanks.
Just thinking.
P.S. If there is a contest on who has the best looking wilds and/or wild tank, you are champ! You take the prize! Congratulations on a job well done. I lub it!!
