Re: 48" hood
Sorry ..... guess i copied the main link before.
I keep getting errors every now and then too at the site.
This should be the one with the wings.
Its made to hang but the wings should keep it up off the glass.

edit .... geez ... it keeps giving me the overall link.
i'll post a pic

Re: 48" hood
lol Cage! Thanks for going through the trouble for me. Is it the one on the bottom of the page on the left hand side? It's kinda ugly, but it will work. Can't beat the price! 24 bucks!

Re: 48" hood
heres the pic of of it.
Its on the 2nd page of that link but for some reason it wont go to the 2nd page from there.
Go to the main home depot site and type in SHOPLIGHTS in the keyword area and it will be on the 2nd page (2 of 2)
its 29.95 i believe
The wings are a reflector to direct the light so that may work out real well.

Re: 48" hood
no problem ... always glad to help out however i can
Im still learning about discus so i cant help out much with fish problems so i'll take whatever i can .... lol.
Hope it works out for ya ............ might be a bit heavy to move around and a little awkward too but definately a cheap light source considering how expensive the hoodlights are.
im just glad my aquarium came with a hood and light ................... try finding a hood for a 60 inch long 100 gallon tank ... lol. This seems to be a very rare size. 60L x 18W x 21H

Re: 48" hood
This may be the one I bought, not sure.http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...5SS&lpage=none It's only 7 inches or so wide, easily fit on your tank.

Re: 48" hood
Oh yeah, wish I could remember everything I wanted to say in one post!! Shoplights often do not have an on-off switch, I plugged mine into a power strip and mounted the strip to the stand, in easy reach. I have 2 lights plugged in there, so I can turn both off with the switch, or just unplug one for less light at night.

Re: 48" hood
I'm getting my glass cut today, and i was wondering about those measurements that i got from Greg.
12" x 24" shouldn't it be 12" x 47" ??
Thanks!!

Re: 48" hood
measure twice, cut once.
Seriously, your tank should have an inside "shelf" (the small band around the inside of the tank) on which you can place the glass. Measure to fit the glass on this shelf. You will want the glass to be cut somewhere so you can "hinge" the glass so that you can open the top without having to take the entire chunk of glass off of the tank to feed, etc.
The shop lights that have been mentioned are cool enough to place the tube directly on the glass without fear of breaking the glass or hurting the bulbs.

Re: 48" hood
Thanks Alight. I did measure from the little inside shelf, it's about 1/2 samller than the regular tank measurements.
At the shop, the are going to cut it in half and silicon the pieces together so that there is a hinge. I just wanted to be sure that i was getting the measursments right. Thanks for the advice!!

If your looking for a good hinge ........ check this site out.

By the way .......... is there a brace across the middle?
If so 12 x 47 wont work i wouldnt think.
