    Hi,

I'm called Trubble, aka Mrs Tazalanche. Like him, I live in northern Middle Tennessee, aka the far end of nowhere. I have been lurking in the shadows watching and reading over Taz's shoulder for a while. I made my account a week or 2 ago, but this is the first, well, second, time I have posted.

I encountered Discus when I lived in Los Angeles in the 1990's. I had a friend who had African Ciclids, and while I thought they were cool, I was entranced with the Discus every time we went to the fish store to get supplies. I talked to the store owner and I learned from watching. After a while, I set up a very nice tank, and had a couple gorgeous fish, only to have it taken away during an earthquake.

I now have a menagerie of animals, including the 8 jouvies currently in my 55 gallon tank that I got for anniversary/birthday/christmas present. I ride horses as my form of outdoors relaxation. I also have dogs and a cat. I like to spend time with the family, watching movies and playing games.

I am currently an Inventory Control Specialist, though I have done many things, from working in retail to driving taxis in Los Angeles. I once worked as a courier for the movie industry. Now that was fun.

I have 2 kids, one of my own, and one from Taz's first marraige. The youngest is catching the fish fever, though she's planning on starting off with Mollies and Danios. She wants some of the baby emerald/albino cories we have for her tank. Can't say I blame her. They are as cute as they could possibly be.

Anyway, I guess I should go browsing around and see what all I can dig up. So far, I have found this forum a gold mine of information.

After a few posts I think it's only proper to introduce myself. Name is Joe. Besides keeping Discus I also keep SA cichlids (Uarus and Geos) and Wild Tropheus. Looking to learn a lot of the experienced folks and have a lot of fun keeping discus.

So my name is not Sammy - Its Mike. Sammy was my yellow lab who passed a few years ago and I couldn't have been closer to her. I was a professional photojournalist and now own and run a large antique store. When I was a child my mom got me hooked on aquariums. We didn't have them money for discus back then but I had a picture of 3 of them in a tank. That picture burnt into my brain. When the opportunity arose I jumped in full strength and I have a passion for working with and helping discus. I read a lot of fish medical books and am always willing to help someone with sick discus.

HI All!!! Im April, Im from Ohio (Sandusky area) and as my name implies I have American Saddlebred horses (I'm a horse trainer and breeder by day, so I guess I am a true slave to animal care since I have 4 dogs, 5 cats, 2 aquariums and 26 horses). I'm new to Simply Discus and have been lurking around for a few days. I have been keeping fish since my parents caved and gave me goldfish one Christmas, I was 5-7ish. LOL. I've had a little bit of everything over the years, but I mainly focus on Angels. I have a 55g heavily planted with 2 pairs of angels (all are PB/PB) with cory cats and bristlenose plecos; and a 125g with just 8 angels, I think 4 have paired up in there. They lay eggs in both tanks frequently but they never get past the wigglers stage, i've never tried to "raise" them so that is fine with me.

Im currently considering turning my 125g into a Discus biotope type deal... I do like live plants so I may have to have more plants and not a true biotope... time will tell. I also have an empty 40g in the barn, a 20g hex on loan to my sister (i think Im gonna use my recall option since she has not set it up yet) and a 10g empty I bought to do QT on some Angels..... So, im excited to start this new journey, i may have to sell some angels, but I think Im ready for a new challenge.

I have crappy well water, so huge WCs may be a big issue I will need help solving.I currently buy walmart water once a week, and have a small 2g per day RO unit helps w topping off.... the 55g is 3 parts RO 1 part well; the 125g is 50/50 RO/well..... the angels seem to love the temp drop of a WC (I let water come to room temp then do the WC), they usually spawn shortly after.... current angels have been w me since thanksgiving 2011 with no casualties except the 6 that arrived dead from Hawaii, the remaining 12 have done well. Ive done imports from Ken Kennedy back when he was exporting the PB gene, and current batch has 6 from FL and 6 from HI.

Anyway, thats my story! Im starting my research on whether or not Discus are possible for me, ive always been in awe of them but have always been told they needed such soft water that it would be impossible for me to keep them. seems like things have changed, however i try to keep the angels at 6.4-6.8, it has been working thanks to RO.
