I have an Eheim Pro II 2080 and I really dig it. It has more flow than the models you are considering, lots and lots of room for biomedia and it is easy to clean.

I'm temporarily running my Eheim 2213 Canister filter in my new 75 gallon tank (added a couple sponges until I get a bigger filter).
Should I get the 2215 for up to 93 gallon tank pumps 164 gph? Or should I go for the 2217 for up to 159 gallon tank with gph of 264. It's a very small price difference. My boyfriend (who bought me the new tank) thinks I should go for the larger one "so that when I get an even bigger tank I won't have to buy another filter", but can a filter be "too big"? (Hey, at least the guy's already thinking "bigger tank" so I can't complain.
Thanks,
Kristen

Kristen,
So long as the output flow of the filter doesn't cause a tidal wave in your tank go for the bigger filter. Discus don't like fast moving water too much!
Paul.
Get the 2217. I used it on my 72 and it was perfect.
I tend to be a bit on the excessive side, but I like 10x flow. It doesn't replace the need for WC's, but it keeps a clean tank. On my personal tank, a 75, I have an eheim 2215, and two penguin 350's.
No matter what, I recommend always putting a biowheel or something else besides the cansiter. This way, if you blow up one filter the other one still has a good load to help you through.
And, if you have another tank and blow up both filters you can take one from your good tank and swap... My two cents =)

Thanks for the advice. I shall order the 2217 tonight...I'll have it in a few days and will just take the media from my existing canister. Next week I'm going to go the the big aquarium store about an hour from here and buy some driftwood, substrate and lots of plants. I'll soak the plants in alum & water over night and voila.....New Years weekend is dedicated to setting up my show tank. Luckily one of my 29's is still empty to put my discus in while I set up the 75. It'll be so much fun!
Happy Holidays to all,
Kristen
Sidra,
The 2217 of course. Order the spraybar installation kit though.. thet look better, are easier to start the syphon, easier to hookup, and.... grey instead of that ugly green with the big white block E H E I M letters written on them lol

the 2217 is great for a 75 gal... Good choice =)
I personally have a Eheim Pro II 2028 with a spray bar (vertically oriented) for my planted 75 gal and I'm very happy with it.
Mike... the Eheim 2080 packs 450 gph.... is that excessive for a 75 gal??Originally Posted by Bainbridge Island Mike

Are there foam prefilters that fit an Emporer or Penguin? I saw where one of you use Penguins and I was curious.
Not that I know of. I used a sponge from an airdriven filter and put a "cork" or sponge in the bottom.
My fish are really happy in the 75 I have set up with the 2080--so in my experience, it is not too much water movement.Originally Posted by nacra99

I purchased the Eheim 2217-it arrived yesterday. FYI--I paid $135 for it at thatpetplace.com and yesterday saw it in the lfs for $269. That is double!!!!
Cosmo, I will look into the spraybar kit, thank you.
A side note...my current 2213 is going to my boyfriend who bought me the Oceanic 75 gallon for Christmas because now he is getting a tank... he wants the Oceanic 50 that matches mine. LOLOLOL. He was a very willing fish-convert!

Hi guys, does SPRAY-BAR-INSTALLATION-SET go with 2213-37-CLASSIC
I'm trying to set up one of this for my 33 gal.Do you think it would be too much movement for discus?
Thanks!
