By buying a fish in that condition you are encouraging the seller to sell more in the same condition. The only abuse there is that the fish was allowed to get into that condition in the first place. Would you buy malnutritioned and sick dogs from a breeder? Probably not. A person like that does not deserve any type of business. Also rescuing a dog is nothing like rescuing a fish. You might get a fish in those horrible conditions to recover somewhat but it will never make a full recover unlike a dog or cat. Do things right or don't do them at all is my philosophy.

they only grow to 12" if provided with the right environment .... "Needs plenty of hiding spots especially tall live plants." :-)

you know you gotta wonder how could anyone buy those emaciated fish when they see them...but funny enough i'm a walking example of how it can be done...

before i got into discus i'd only admire them at my lfs...and gosh i thought they looked fabulous! if i had the money and resources at the time i probably would have bought them! then i joined simplydiscus...and got a big dose of 'reality'

thanks to everyone on this site i've learned a whole lot on what to do...and what NOT to do....now every time i pass by the discus at the store i notice all the stuff you guys have been talking about and what i had completely missed a few months ago....ahhh...knowledge is awesome

This thread had a chance to be great but stopped at ok and turned into a b***h feast about lfs etc. This thread made me curious to what people thought of as "perfect" and so I went to Discus U. where I surfed the 'Rate my Fish" posts until I got disheartened with all the low scores. Is there a possibility of redoing and showing comparisons? ie pinched head to perfect, oval fish to perfect. We may not all want or need perfection but I for one would find it just as helpful to know what perfection was as to know what not to buy.
