thnx guys that's help heaps
Still I would recommend a comparison page for dummies (for me ) and, after seeing all those beauties, maybe a basic "judging" guide for dummies for those who'd like to be more serious (not me )
I know I am new to the forum but not really new to discus, but recently I drove out to a LFS near where I live and the discus there were in such bad shape I felt so sorry for them. The majority of them were so dark and peppered and others were practically skeletons on their way out...I mean what LFS really keeps quality discus to begin with but this place was considerably bad. I think its horrible how fish stores get away with keeping them in such bad condition
I'm a noob - and to be honest, I bought two VERY poor looking fish just a couple weeks ago. I did my research, so the purchase WAS intentional as I couldn't stand to see them in the conditions they were being left to live in...and I figure for the little "extra" time it will take me to care for them, they can have a good home here with me. I don't intend on breeding them ever, just got them set up into their own planted aquarium and letting them be happy. When I got them their sides were sunken in (one still is a bit, but looking MUCH better), their fins were down, and they hardly moved at all and sat stuck to the filter intake. Now - they're getting fat, happy, and healthy. Just sad they aren't "quality". Thanks for those pictures - as a noob it helps!

Skip, you make me laugh
Your discus are talking to you....are you listening
well actualy...one of my discus is like the first one.....
this type of topic w/pics is good education for Discus newbies considering buying! I myself DID buy from a LFS (20/20 hindsight - SD is a great resource), but thankfully my pair aren't stunted too badly, and they're healthy .
