oh I forgot to show this pic - whenever I'm breeding light color strains like whites & reds I always lower the water level b4 the frys freeswim...but I'm sure most of you knew that already.
IME breeding blue, green and brown strains are so much easier because the parents can become so much darker than say red, white or yellow strains. JMO of course.

Its also very imformative to me because i have two pairs the minute, 0ne of the younger haves lay every four days or so but lose interest after 24 to 48 hours and a pair i have just bought spawned in my new show tank, they were to hatch soon but the eggs have disapeared.
its nice to know that this happens to every pair and not just mine, as im waiting on my first wrigglers!!!
Chris - thanks and for 1st timers/young pairs it is very normal for them to eat their first few spawns. I'm not saying it's impossible to get frys from their first spawn but it's quite rare IME. If those pairs are currently in your community tank I'd keep letting them spawn(with other fish' presence will strengthen their parental instinct) until I see wigglers, after which I'll put them in their own tank.
