New to Discus !!! Questions...

They are pigeon bloods.

Whoever told you the parents were 12" is lying to you. No discus grows that large. Even the monsters I've seen people post were only 7" at most when measured out of their tank.

He had a picture of the parents and he said they get very large. Given that you have a large environment for them they can get up to 12". These fish were hand carried by my friend which he brought back from Singapore. Believe it or not....

I couldn’t find the picture of the parent discus I will give it to you when I find it, but found a similar one from the same breeder when I was in Singapore. This one is almost the same size as the 12” heater. The pair that you are getting from me get huge, can you imagine having a pair of discus in your house the size of a dinner plate? Your friends will drop their jaws…. , but a big tank is needed with clean water.

As for their diets....

They both eat mainly frozen blood worms.

But I can also give them....
Colorbits...... The female loves it but the male doesn't
Frozen shrimp in tiny pieces .....The male loves it and the female doesn't

Kinda pickey eaters huh ???

And 30% water changes once a week.

Had a client that owned a 9 inch fish, but it was on a 340 gallon tank with only 9 discus and a school of 40 Rummynose. Fish were feed 3 times a day and a 50% water change was done weekly and a second water change of 25% in between. Still it was an anomaly, only this fish passed the 6.5 inch mark. A 12" discus is a thing of dreams! With only 30% weekly Water change?

Don't get me wrong the fish you posted is very nice, but the heater is farther back than the fish so it gives the illusion of equal size.

I was told the more water changes the better.....

But I can get away with 30% water changes once a week.

For growth.....more often water changes and larger tank.

I will post the pic of the parents if it turns up....
