Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. Kept 10g in elementary, then no tank until my second year of college. Have been keeping a planted tank for the past 13 years (very low tech). BRAND NEW to discus....had fish since Feb this year. Nice to be a part of the forum!

MY NAME IS CAROL G. AND I LIVE IN BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS. I AM NEW TO THIS WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISCUS, BUT IN READING ALL THE OTHER THREADS AND PROBLEMS I AM WONDERING IF I WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND ALL THE TECHNICAL PROBLEMS PEOPLE HAVE WITH THE WATER AND EQUIPMENT. I HAVE 3 3INCH DISCUS THAT ARE IN MY 55 GAL. TANK AND THEY DO NOT LIKE ANY LIGHTS. THEY COME OUT TO EAT AND WHEN I SIT IN FRONT OF THE TANK THEY COME OUT. THEY ARE EATING WELL BUT AS SOON AS I PUT THE LIGHT THAT CAME WITH THE HOOD THEY RUN AND HIDE.

ANY SUGGESTIONS OF A LIGHT THAT THEY WILL NOT HIDE FROM?

Hi Carol:

Welcome. I bet you will get more responses if you post this in the discus for beginners section. I'm assuming you just got a standard single or double tube flourescent light with your hood. Your fish will get used to the light over time. I would get a timer for your hood light and set it to turn on for about 10 hours a day--when you are most likely to be watching your fish.
