    Alex,
    I only use the Python on the upstairs tanks, with no restrictions on it (I don't use the pump). In the fishroom I use a 1" hose, which can drain a 55 gallon in about 5 minutes.

    So then you are at 1/2" too.
    1" nice, I put that to my pump (working on the fish room) I get about 20Gl per min but only 90gl connected (testing). I use connectors with siphons to clean tank bottoms.
    Had to many kinks with old Python so got that thick reinforced 1/2" inside tubing this way if I close valve it doesn't expend like it's going to burst, (mind you my original Python is 7 years, so it seen it's share of water changes). For fish-room I'll go with PVC.
