Default Silver Pigeon Blood Malboro Red Cross

So it's been a while since I have posted on SD so here is an update.

My pair spawn on an every 7 day basis like clockwork. Sometimes all the eggs get eaten, sometimes they make it to wiggler, sometimes they make it to free swimming and then disappear. If this week they make it to free swimming then next week they eat the eggs so it's kind of all over the place. I've noticed that the mom, Malboro Red, seems to just do her thing and then have only half a heart to take care of the eggs. I almost never see the male helping out and if I do see it she chases him away. So he seemed like he wanted to be a part of it but she would not allow it.

So after observing this for a time... this is what I did.

After I was away for over 24 hours I came home to a lovely batch of eggs. Easily the biggest batch so far. So I pulled the mom and put her by herself in another tank. It's been about a day and a half now and everything is looking good. She is swimming around her vacation resort while Daddy is stuck at home with the kids. (LOL)

So far Dad seems to have taken on his role well. He is not as psychotically dedicated to them as she was.. if I come into the room he is right there at the side protecting his turf. So I try and stay out of that room as much as possible. I took a peek this morning and there are def some wigglers there maybe about 10-15 have hatched so far. So I am crossing my fingers. He must be doing something right so far! Some of the other eggs are fuzzing over but I was expecting that. I have never treated with Meth blue because there have only ever been minimal fuzzing.

Lets see how Daddy goes on his own and lets keep our fingers crossed he does a good job! Otherwise I will conclude that they suck as parents, stick them in the community tank and focus on broadening my discus family with juvies a friend has for sale Which I am going to do that part regardless lol

    Pics to come!

    +1

It might actually be where your last batch ended up.
