I'm not too sure how a feshwater skimmer works? I know how a saltwater skimmer works, and that's just taking the dead organics out of the water through the bubbles that are produced. I would assume that this is the same for a freshwater one, but don't quote me!

Anyone have a response on my latest design? Any thoughts at all?

    Hi Joe,

In essence they do the same job as marine skimmers, mechanically they are similar, usually taller. They seem to need quite a powerful pump to get the foaming etc needed. As with marine skimmers ozone will help the porcess.

Looks ok to me, make sure the inlet for the UV is after the mechanical filtration and the outlet is in the uplift chamber. Simplicity is the key with these, less to go wrong. Having 2 compartments in the middle allows you to vary media if appropriate.

    Thanks Paul
The skimmers appear to be much taller than saltwater skimmers. But it's for a pond with large volumes of water. I wonder if a salwater skimmer will work for smaller volumes of water. It should remove some of the dissolved organic compounds.
