If you're breeding the guppies and you know they're a good, clean source.. sure. I used to feed livebearer fry to my fish all the time. It's a free source of live food that you never run out of.
Welcome to Sd! Why would you want to do that? You do not like guppies If you want to feed live foods you can feed California Black Worms...live brine shrimp .....

I had to laugh, tried feeding newborn guppies to my discus, now I have full grown guppies in the tank. Actually, I captured all but one, he's a fast bugger!! They never did eat any as far as I could tell. Mine are just spoilt I guess!

planted 150 gal Discus, planted 10 gal cherry shrimp tank, 29 gal. rasbora and danio tank, 29 gal Praecox rainbow planted tank and an empty 29.Hmmmm!
Aw the poor guppies
I'd feed them live brine shrimp, if you want to feed them something still alive.
Welcome to the board by the way
Life's no fun without a good scare! Stephanie
Yep, the guppy fry ARE fast with the discus having big, wide bodies, they can't really get at the tight places the fry hde in.Originally Posted by wolfbane
Brine aren't really a major source of nutrition compared to other foods. Brine are very small and they use up a lot of their nutritional value during hatching. Unless the brine are enhanced with something, they usually don't do much for the fish nutritionally. I learned this when I kept dwarf seahorses.Originally Posted by swinters66
If the brine weren't really significant enough for a tiny seahorse, I can't imagine they do much for discus. You'd need a lot of them, and you'd need them to be enhanced with HUFAs (Highly Unsaturated Fatty Acids). As snacks they're alright, but I don't think they'd do well as a major food source.
Now, fish fry on the other hand...
but..the brine does give them the thrill of the chase..first time i fed them that..they kept looking at them..like..huh? but then they quite enjoyed the hunting them.
best live food you can get is red wigglers. takes them awhile for that also..but if you can find small ones..its also a continuing source of free food. also gets rid of your veggie waste. they can eat a pound a week of veggies.
no smell..just gotta make sure you bury the food well or you get fruit flies.
or..you can collect ant eggs..
theres also white worms. quite rich in fats..but puts weight on fast and they love them. red wigglers and white worms are a far safer choice than blackworms.
So some of you LOVE guppies but HATE shrimp??
