    Thanks Ed!

And the stand was from a guy on eBay that sells unfinished stands. You stain and varnish, then bolt it together. I had NO IDEA how much time staining and varnishing would take! WOW! Never again!

And to make matters worse, I had to assume that any part could come in contact with lots of water - and be undiscovered for a long time. So it wasn't just varnishing the outside the people see, but every inch of every piece of wood - front, back, edges. And with lots of it too. What a PITA!

    Hi Steve,
That's a absolutely amazing tank and set up. I took a quick look at everything underneath the cabinet and thought....I'd never have a fish tank if I had to understand all that stuff. The tank is just awesome. And.....those are the greatest looking trash can kept discus I have ever seen!!!!

Thanks Jose and Debbi! It will get better - I promise (hope?)!

The pics I posted were so crude... the fish are really showing stress bars - time in the trash can was NOT perfect. I observed them there. And while they appeared healthy, those stress bars came out with a vengance.

They are fading now, but I'm looking forward to them being gone.

That said, my old cobalts are now in with 4 much bigger leopards from Gulf Coast Discus. It could be (I'm a newb and wouldn't know) that some of that "stress" is coming now from being in with bigger fish. Dan's leopards (from Gulf Coast) are losing their stress bars much faster than my origanal cobalts. And that's kinda funny considering that the older fish (the new larger leopards) are behaving true to form, and are actually much more skiddish than the younger fish.

So go figure - older fish, more skiddish, fewer stress bars. While the younger fish are just the opposite.

And the aquascape is really barely that. I'm just trying to get the plants healthy for now. Real aquascaping will begin in a couple of months.

But thanks for the kind words!

This thread has been a blast! And you guys have been both kind and helpful. Thanks!

But as you know, the Kahuna sprung that leak, and now it's time for a new thread.

So if you are still interested in what happened to all those poor fish I had in trash cans - all those months - please take a look here.
