    Hey Troy-

CONGRATS! I am watching my expectant parents. I should have wigglers tomorrow. How exciting!

    Update : 63 wigglers.

    Thanks Jeep and fishmama.

I have them in about 65 % RO water right now. They spawned about four times in a 125 gallon tank with 9 other discus their size and age in just aged tap water. Out of these four spawns not one wiggler so I moved them to their own 30 gallon and dropped the temp a few degrees and really softened their water. Fed them alot of frozen blood worms and Tetra bits and waited a whole 2 days before they spawned again. Right before they spawned I did a 80 % water change with about 75 % RO. That dropped the TDS down to around 80. I am going to start adding some hardness over the next couple of days.

I really didn't expect any wigglers since the MP is pretty young.

    Thanks for looking.

Well Jack, I don't know if I would say great care but I give the best I can. And you know the genes the MP has and Brian knows the genes the Golden has. I just hope the two sets of genes mesh well together LOL. At this point I hope I don't make the new parents mad because I can't seem to get myself to leave them alone. I keep checking on them because I still can't believe they acutally have babies.

    Thanks for the comments.

They should be free swimming in a day or two. The parents are looking pretty anxious. I just hope the attach OK. Thanks for looking.

    Hi Troyclark,

Your Discus Parents and their Wigglers are VERY BEAUTIFUL & WONDERFUL!!!!!
I hope my Discus can spawn like yours one of these days.

I just have Discus for 4 months and I am a beginner of keeping Discus.
I don't understand a few things and hope you can kindly answer my questions:
    1. What is 65% RO water?
    2. What is aged tap water?
    3. How young is your MP started spawning?
    4. When you observe a "pair", do you move them to a spawning tank or just let them spawning in their tank and move other Discus away?

Looking forward to read your advice.
    Thanks a lot.

ma007, I am about the farthest thing from an expert on the subject but here goes.

    1. 65 % RO means that I have replaced 65% of the tank water with pure Reverse Osmosis water. This makes the water softer and hopefully increases fertility rates as harder water makes the eggs surface harden quicker and not giving the males sperm enough time to make it in and fertilize. At least thats what I heard LOL.

    2. Aged tap water means that my water is taken from the tap and put into large storage tanks and allowed to age. Out of thet tap my water is at an unstable PH and aging it allows any gasses to escape and stabilizing my water. It also allows the temperature to be at any range I choose by using big heaters in the storage tanks.

    3. I don't know for sure but I think my MP male is at or just under 1 year which from what I hear is pretty young for a male to be fertile.

    4. Once a pair has established itself in my "singles bar tank" I let them spawn a couple of times knowing that the eggs will be eaten my the other tank mates. I think this kind of solidifies the pair but some don't think so. After they spawn a couple of times I pull them out and put them into a 29 gallon tank with a small percentage of reverse osmosis (RO) water and start to fatten them up with frozen blood worms and alot of tetra bits.

Please, if anyone has better insight into this please, please ring in. I don't want to spread mis-information. Here is a shot of my newest formed pair. The male is the big one and he has given me numerous spawns with other females. The female is a first time spawner but her sister is the golden I have paired with my MP. Thanks for looking.
