How long do you microwave a sponge filter?

I have never tried this but it looks like a good way to sterilize a filter for a new tank. In the past I have used a little bleach but after a while that breaks down the sponge. I recently started to use PP but I may need to give the micro a try...

How many of you use PP?

I wondered about that myself. I started to use PP also to sterilize "new" tanks. Would that work versus bleach? Sorry to hijack, just figured since we're talking sterilizing stuff.

Yes, if it stops u from using chems, that would be awesome! I have that sponge in the main tank but can't use it because of the fish thats recooping. Does anyone no this answer AL????

Eileen, yes...but if the sponges are boiled or nuked...they are dead... no bio filter...its like starting with a new sponge.
