    Exclamation My Purple Spotted Gudgeon Is In Trouble!

    Hey guys look at these picture...this is PS, my Purple Spotted Goby. I have had him over a year....It is a horrible thing to see, but he is swimming up and spinning and rolling over and landing then hiding only to repeat the process.

    The discus have always been indifferent to him, but now they want to find him where ever he is

    I think... he looks a little bloated...but, honestly, I am not sure...he really looks the same...I think

    Sounds like swim bladder or a bacterial infection to me. Is this the same tank that has the ram with the cloudy eye too? It may be too late to cure PS, but you may have to hit the tank with something. I don't know if Furan 2 is something for this or somebody else can chime in on a possible cure?

    found a chart on meds:

    Are the scales protruding? (like a pine cone?)

    Did you find him? Move some ornaments around? Is he in the cave?

    Marie,

    What kind of water changes are you doing on the tank? What's the temperature, pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, etc.? It's hard to diagnose potential issues with a couple of pictures. They don't really show much.

    Between this and the ram with the bad eye, I'm wondering if there's a water quality issue or something. I've seen it in my fish before.

    Okay Ryan: ammonia = 0

    pH = 7.6

    NitrItes = 0

    NitrAtes = 20

    Ryan...and really, NitrAtes could be 40...it is hard to tell

    What does this mean? Is this the problem? But listen, Ryan... if I hold the test tube against the white card chart...it can be 40......

    If I hold it just slightly away, it is 10

    I never test my water unless there is a problem so I forget how I do it....the directions say to hold it agaisnt it, however....

    40 is not good is it?

    Ya know my Rams are old and so is PS....

    Oh, the temp is 85 degrees ~

    If all your discus are adults now you can drop the temp down to 82 - 84.

    Are you aging your water now that you've moved or do you still add it straight from the tap? If possible, could you maybe increase the w/c amount for a week or so and see if there's any improvement? Increased w/c are always the first thing I try when fish aren't acting like themselves. Good, clean water sometimes makes the difference.

    Does the gudgeon show any kind of symptoms other than erratic swimming?

    Ryan I change almost 85% daily, so increase that? No he doesn't show any other signs of distress...I am doing a wc now and I thought sure he would be dead or something in his cave but he is still around!

    He is not doing that funny spining swim now.....

    I have three discus in there I have had almost two years, and my really big new one, plus the rest from Kenny...those are probably close to being adults...I think!

    I will lower my temp as well ~

    What about those NitrAtes? I usually always have 10, but 20...what does that mean, Ryan?
