Good news.. I also hear the same thing about my datnoids.. fresh and brackish should work.
I'm starting to use salt with them too.
Hey Guys ~ an update on Ps! I moved him to the 20 gal with my only member of the Buzz Family and he is doing great!
This tank has lower lights, much....and lower temp, and less fish I added some salt too! What a turn around.....!
Everything I read about these guys and the breeder as well said that they can be in fresh water.....most sites pretty much say both will work and many have done both ~
So ~
I figured he spent half his life in fresh water...now it is brackish Jason and Paul also made me think....

Jose
Thanks, Jose! He is perfect now
Hello KindredSpirit and GreyHound,
Kindred, what salinity do you have your Gudgeon at? A SG of 1.005 or lower is suggested for this fish, anything moderately higher, 1.010-1.015 for example, is not to their liking or health. I'm asking because it seems like you don't have a hydrometer. Just making sure the little guy isn't in anything too salty
GreyHound, Datnoides do enjoy a bit of salt depending on the species. Datnoides cambelli and Datnioides polotaenjoy a good amount of salt, a SG of 1.005-1.015 seems to suit them quite well. Datnioides pulcher prefers a completely freshwater environment, as does Datnioides undecimradiatus. Datnioides microlepis seems to be indifferent between complete freshwater and slightly salty water with a SG of 1.005 or less.
