hello all i am new here in from north chicago. i currently have a 75 gallon oceanic tank cycling with fish in it. just feeder gold fish. it has been cycling for about 1 week know. will be adding some discus probly in a month or so wheni getteh water right. awsome board and i have learned so much.

thanks for the warm welcome. i love this board. it dedicated to discus and we love teh fish and look forward to bringing home a few in a month or so. i have also noticed there are a few breeders in teh chicagoland area which is cool so i can save on shipping a few of them are sponsors of teh site here. we have a local breeder about 15 miles from me. onece again thanks

i actaully live in great lakes as i am in the military. most people are like were is that so i just say north chicago. and teh breeder his name is butch. and i can't think of teh name of teh town to save my life. but he is down off 94 exit 35 i think. he has a huge basement full of them. i also work in grayslake at the lake forest hospital on the weekends. my water should be fine in a week or so.

LoL, Butch is actually right in the city, Chicago. He is a good place to get discus from.

yeah it didn't seem to far from here. i think it was probly 15 20 miles from me. maybe a little further. the traffic make it seems further. seemed like a real nice guy and he is teh guy that i got my tank from. and when my wife seen his fish she wanted them to. so we are letting teh tank cycle and i will be calling him up.

I buy most of my fish and food from Butch great guy with the best Beefheart mix.

On another note using feeder gold fish to cycle a fish tank isn't good they carry a lot of nasty bacteria that can transfer to your discus once you put them in there.JMO

Welcome! I agree with Tiffany - I would not use feeder gold fish.

See if Butch will let you borrow a sponge filter or give you some used media from one of his filters you'll be good to go.

Stock lightly and figure thigns out - better to lose one or two fish then a full tank.
