    Default Fish Room Overhaul

In my former fish life, I was heavy into breeding and showing championship show guppies. Personal circumstances forced me to shut down my fish room back in 2002. Although I had always planed on setting up the guppies again, I could not refuse the temptation to convert my entire fish room to Discus after getting my hands on some quality stock from Wayne Ng via Kenny at International Discus.

To make matters worse or better (depends on how you look at it), last weekend I raided 3 local Petco fish stores and managed to pick up 15 new tanks. I just could not resist the $1 per gallon sale . 3 of the tanks were to finish my breeding room and the final 10 were new grow out tanks. This thread will show the destruction of my guppy fish room and the creation of my new Discus room.

Day one was a very sad day because I was reliving the fond memories that I had during my affiliation with the International Fancy Guppy Association. Tearing down the old racks was tough but as the clean up process neared completion I began to see the beginning of my new fish room. Here are some before pictures of my guppy room.

With the clean up process completed we were ready to begin the rebuilding process. Here are pictures of one completed rack and a second rack that is still in progress.

wow dan, those r some nice set up,we can see how much effort u r putting in.
im wondering how does the cement block stacked up 3 tiers, will it be firm?
im really interested on it cos i may need to add more tanks in my hatchery n it seems to be a much easier way instead of building up racks.
is it possible to show more info n pic on those 'cement block racks'?thanks in advance.

    best regards,
    forrest.

    Forrest,

I just replaced the cement block system with all wood racks. I personally would not go any further than two high on cement blocks with a regular spacer block on top. I prefer the all wood system over the cement block system only because it is easier to mount lighting, control the exact hight of each tier and you lose less space between the tanks.

    Hey Dan,
I wish that I was as lucky as you are with lots of room to expand your hobby, what I have is a little cuby hole in the basement and with no room to expand at all.Ha!Ha!
It will be very nice to see when your tanks are all set up.

Nice start on your fish room, keep us posted with updated pics. I will be doing the same thing in a couple of months with my basement.

Thanks guys...My dad and I worked hard for 4 days to get to what you see. Now it will be a few hours per day for weeks to finish.

Mario, I would settle for your room and your fish

I will be calling you soon to discuss my plans for a super filtration system.

    Hey Dan,
I don't think that you want my little fish room and it is 10'X12', it is very confined right now and difficult to get it upgraded and it was built over 20 years ago.
Regarding my fish you must be kidding.Ha!Ha!
Feel free to give me call.
    Mario
