Don't use acid. Purchase a Reverse Osmosis water filter to lower the conductivity of your water.
Acid can produce deadly results if not used properly and is rarely need anyway...

With a pH of 5.5 already, I'd leave it just where it is , give the pair a private tank and see what kind of hatch rates you get.. Filtering thru peat would help lower the hardness as well... just be careful to monitor the pH...

I am really confused if you water is in the 5's for PH, why are you trying to lower it more. If you go lower you will be in the danger zone of killing your fish because everything becomes very unstable below that.

Hi if your tap water is 7.5 and your aquarium water is 5.5....How are you lowering it?
Unless you have some type of buffer in your water like crushed coral or shells, then the pH cannot go higher. It's a slow, but continually dropping numberOkei.But if i won't acid water pH can grow up?
