Default New kid on the block

Hello to you all. Not only am I new to you, I’m also new to the beautiful
world of Discus. Yep, I’m a greenie! But thanks to “April” I’m out of the
starting gate and off to a solid start….I’m also grateful that she referred me to
this Discus forum which I’m sure will be quite helpful, informative and fun
to chat with fellow Discus enthusiasts.

A little about myself….I live in Canada… and at 43, I’m happily married,
have 3 great kids and 3 beautiful grandsons. I love the outdoors, camping,
beach bumming, BBQ-ing, doing the back yard fire pit thing making and
eating yummy smores bars under the stars with family and friends…and ok
a few chi chi’s too. I always have and very much enjoy planting and
admiring the colors and fragrances of my collection of annual flowers every
year. And now, I have of course my new hobby, the “beautiful” and
    “enchanting” world of Discus.

A little about where I’m at so far….I’m growing out 10 juveniles in a bare
bottom 55gal tank w/50-75% daily wcs at a steady 86F soon to change to a
100gal bare bottom tank. My fish are now hovering at about the 4.5 – 5.5”
range. And now if I may, keeping true to the amateur name, I’d like to ask a
couple of questions from you pro’s out there…any info would be much
appreciated….time to give April a rest!

    1) On average, how long does it usually take these little fella’s to grow to a nice,
    healthy, large, adult size?
    2) How long does the actual “window” of “growing” opportunity last before they
    will actually stop growing?
    3) Is it possible to over feed them?

Well that’s about it for now…hello again to you all and have a great day!

    Kim Cory

Hi Kim and Welcome to Simply Discus!!!

Most important with the juvies is to keep up the water changes due to all the feedings. Variety in diet is key as well. Each crop of babies seem to grow out/mature relative to husbandry, genetics, and plain ol' luck!

What are your set up, water parameters, feeding schedule, etc?

    Enjoy the challenge!
