Background

What do you guys use as a background, without having to paint the tank? I am looking at options for my 150 tall.

I use Dow 1" styrofoam insulation - got a huge sheet (4' x 8' it think) for like $12 at a local home improvement store, and simply cut the sheet so it would fit snugly between the top and bottom lip of my tank. I used a seafoam green-ish color, and the labelling faces the wall so all you see is a clear bluish background in the tank. Cheap, easy to install, easily removed, and it even provides a small measure of insulation.

OP, are you referring to aesthetically pleasing backgrounds or just plain ol' background options so that you can't see behind the tank? 3D? DIY?

I think the foam may be a good solution, if i can find it in black.
Rick, I looked into a slim line but they all look to require dry installation, and i don't want to disrupt my tank.

I picked up few color(light blue) chart boards from local crafts shop Michaels for $1.5 per board and I used three boards on my 225 gallon for many years. When I got board of the blue color, i flipped the board to white color.

I honestly have not heard of a background that you could install without it being empty (inside install), but there are many options for stick ons in the back/outside of the tank. The vinyl is a good option.

Some great ideas here, I have two big discus tanks with zero background....was bored to death of plain and did not want 3d, as i dont need more cleaning hassle

Just a warning for acrylic owner: once you put it on, it's hard to take glue off.

I've always used black or green cloth. We recently backgrounded our 75G with green and my wife sewed small velcro dots on the cloth and we stuck other other part on the plastic tank trim. Works great and you can't beat the $!
